  • my window does not work

well, when i press the control button, it makes power draw, i can hear from the engine sound, and the motor or motor switch in the door makes clicking sound when is pressed, but it does not move the window

what could this be, the motor or the cable?

    cheers

It could also be the motor. I had a dud one and the relay on the end would click, but it wouldnt go. Only way to know is to take the door trims off!

This also happened to me on the cruise today. I can see the arm inside the door moving but the window is nowhere to be seen. I heard a big clunk when i went over a bump. I think its at the bottom of my door LOL. It was raining by the way

Jerk the regulator around first, working it up and down. I ended up doing that because I had to pull the window down so I could reach the clamps, and once I worked it loose, I decided to hook up the control - it worked to my surprise! I don't know how to explain this though. Mine stopped working when the window was all the up, and it wouldn't scroll down although you could hear the motor click.

yours sounds like the cable fell out of the track, on the wheel inside, if its done that then the cable is stuck and it wont move

i fixed all 4 on my girlfriend car, the same problem like yours,

mine sounded like a motor or regulator like rayray says, just dont have time to pull it apart at the moment, lucky its stuck closed...

haha...you should see how much fun is to go through drive through and pay tall at M5, handing the money through rear window

william mate, when i find out what part i need ill send u a Pm so u can get me a quote, thanks

I reckon my drivers side one is about to blow too, i think ill keep a block of wood handy to support it up if im not at home. It tends to make a clunk sound when going up or down past a certain point

A couple of times u hit up, it gets to a certain point then goes back down. Scared me the first time it did that i thought i was up for a new one When i bought 3 regulators they cost about $70 shipped from the US and havent missed a beat although i think u can get something cheaper here too.

                      The vw window regulator

                      The many issues vw caused with plastic components in window regulators the window regulator works with a motor that is known for internally shorting causing this item to be replaced $$$ {fault number 1} bolted to a door skin this motor has splines {plastic splines} so vw can make money on both items when this item chews the splines away therefore charging out a new motor not cheap, defined as wear by vw {fault number 2}
this splines into a regulator the reg consists of an internal winding of wire with a {plastic retainer} that is the common cause of the problems listed above and below as the wire groves into the plastic and makes ridges causing it all to bind up {fault number 3}tensioned up the window brackets that clip onto two side guides brackets commonly {plastic} so when fault 3 binds up it snaps the window brackets which are plastic and at this stage brittle so vw can make money on the replacement of this item then recall item after 2 generations of golf mk3 mk4 {fault number 4 } to put steel brackets hmmm

my driver's window makes some clicking noises, and goes up and down alright, with a few jerky spots.

The owner pointed it out to me, reckoned it needed a new cable.

                        what do you think?

Is there anyway of fabricating metal regulators? if not is there anyway of repairing the old/broken ones?

2 of my windows are clicking/clunking too....how long before they give up?

hi guys - this recently happened to me (drivers side window)- scared the **** out of me...

I have been quoted around ~$450-500 to fix it, but i dont know if there is more than one problem or if its just the regulator... how much should i be paying with parts/labour? I played around with it a fair bit so i dont know if i really stuffed it up?

                              cheers

when i say played around with it a fair bit - i kept pressing the button up and down and heard a crackingish noise. cheers
