when I had my clutch done on my alfa 33 I took it to Mauceri motors in Clayton. Cost me 800 all up including everything. They are italians and do all European cars.

At work they were saying that for industry standards, their $64ph was cheap. Ford dealers charge at least $90ph!!!!

yeah, maybe they just dont like going clutches on VR6's.

anyway, i'll let you all know how it goes with my old mechanic.

I just hope he is as good on my golf as he is on my mates 540 Bmw!

VR6 gearbox is heavy and clutch is a poo of a Job, its hard to maneauvre the box on and off. Make sure someone competant is doing it, grill them as to whether they have done one before.

2L GL Clutch is a different story. On my own in an arvo, no probs. VR6, different heavier story fellas.

Timing Chains on a VR6 is a very involved job. 1. Get the Chains, 2. Take out engine and gearbox, heaps of messing about, labour and expensive parts and Makes sure the person doing it has done it before. Failiure to do this results in the car sitting around for weeks or months whilst the mechanic scratches his head and wonders how he ended up with the job.

                    Good Luck.
