My steering is making a sort of whining sound. Not too bad, but noticeable. Fluid seems to be ok. Could it be the pump or something else?

mine whines louder than my ex girlfriend. (thats pretty loud)
But has been doing it since i got the car. Have had the fluid changed. got a little bit better but still pretty loud. Good news is. Thats 100,000kms ago now. Hasnt really gotten any worse.
I have heard tho that if the wrong fluid is used it can make them whine.. id try changing that first maybe?

Mine's like Tim's - whined like mad since I bought it, I've changed the fluid and it got a little better, but it's still carrying on like a banshee...
Been doing it now for 35000kms that I know of...

Hmm interesting as I thought that mine was the only one. Mine does it but not that loud and not that noticeable unless your listening to it.I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...Comment

Looks like it could be a common trait among us mk3 owners. I can live with it however, mainly gets drowned out by exhaust note so u can only hear it when ur parking etc...will look at belt and change the fluid and I'll let you know if it makes any difference....1983 Lotus Esprit Turbo
