Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • My first golf. opinions?

Hi all I am looking to buy my first golf and i have found a 1994 VR6 that im interested in.

It has 180,000km on the clock and is $5500.
I havn't checked it out yet but from the photo's it seems to be straight with no rust.

The owner has this to say:

    "URGENT SALE!!! GOING OVERSEAS!!!

Car is in great condition, mechanically A1, never had any problems with engine.

Have also upgarded brakes on car, slotted discs with green stuff performance brake pads.

The starter motor seems to be going but that is the only problem with the car.

Other then that, a fantastic car to drive"

Someone i know said that this car is too cheap and it might not be a genuine VR6.

    What do you guys think?

    Cheers,
    Matt

I wouldnt say its "too cheap" its prob about spot on price for an early model vr6 without any mods. Just make sure u check everything including a/c, heater, windows, abs, cruise, clutch. Some ppl have had timing chain problems too so listen out for any noises, chatter etc etc.

    Gl with it mate!

Get it round to Matt at Camden GTI for a once over if you are close enough. He is in Campbelltown.

ok cool well i'll definitly give it a good thorough look.

As to camden GTI i think it might be a bit far, the VR6 is in east wood so its a good hour each way.

        Thanks for your advice
