do you mean colouring the plastic parts? I.e. around heater controls etc...I have a carbon kit on mine. looks ok cos its real carbonfibre. As far as painting dash I would leave it. I'm considering taking the carbon fibre off mine for the very same reason.

Painted dashes look horrifically gay. Sorry, but that's the only way to say it.

I've seen a few and they're ALL hideous.

Spend your money on other things!!

changing dash lights can look cool. But i dont think its worth it.. Its not that easy a job i dont think.

haha sorry i thought the same when u were talking about colouring the dash.
I had horrific visions of this!

I loved the monster tacho in addition to the factory fitted one. if you need to know when to shift your car in everyday driving i think you need a car with one less pedal!

i changed the color of my dash lights in my magna, using green and white LED's. looked fantastic, and very clear. It was also a pretty simple job.
Ive looked at doing it to the golf, but the Leds are differant and i need to do some more reserch.

there are a few writeups on vwvortex i think. From memory its not as simple as just swapping out LEDs and stuff. u need to use the right LEDs in conjunction with the right resistors. or something to that effect. and then if u do the dash u really need to do the heater controls and switches.

its not that hard to do, the hardest bit is pulling the cluster apart to remove the green tinter behind the lcd screens.

i had mine all blue, except the lcd's and it looked crap. so i put it all back to white until i could be bothered doing it properly with cold cathodes or something similar to give a better spread of light as the factory positions give you beams of light with led's as opposed to a shower of light with filiment globes.

Yeah, I've bookmarked a few links from VWVortex that have come out time to time. I think some of the buttons on the centre console are actually colour filtered so no matter what colour you use, they'll still have a green tinge, but there's a way around it.

Here are most of the links I've come across while perusing the Mk3 forum on vortex:

                        Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
                        Present: Mk3 Golf variant.
