      That's not quite it Lorenz,

Euro VR6's had slightly different front bumpers, and sometimes lips, and the euro vr6's also had a certain sensor in the intake and front foglights. That's what I know off the top of my head, although I'm sure there's a few more bits and pieces.

What Lorenz is referring to is the 'older' and 'newer' versions of vr6's...the engine was updated with a few minor things and they're commonly referred to as OBDI or OBDII engines.

Wow, I always thought the 12v was OBDI and the 24v was OBDII?
Hence a mk3 is never an OBDII vehicle without a 24v swap (out of a bora 4mo etc)

So what does your bay look like?

          Interesting...Still love mine.

What are the benefitds of OBDII then, wider/more parameters when scanning/tuning?

i believe the eur vr6's also have slightly different engines as well s bumpers and what not. euro vr's were a 2.9 with 82mm pistons and slightly different uppoer intake manifold. not sure what else...

Since when did any 12V vr6 come out with a schrick VGI manifold in any of the VW range? Not in golf, vento/jetta, corrado, t4

obd2 also has a different intake manifold and a 68 mm throttle body which the idle is controlled by a small electric motor
earlier ones are 62 mm and use an isv, they also have an annoying ramp that restricts flow
im in the process of converting to the later one

The variable geometry manifold was developed by VW and was actually a VWMS option in some markets. Rumour has it that it was supposed to be a standard feature on the MK3 era VR6 engined cars but the bean counters put an end to that? We will probly never know though.
Interestingly VW managed to included a variable geometry manifold in the MK4 VR6 engined cars. So obviously they see the value in the concept.

From what i understand VW actually sold the design to schrick who then improved it.

                      VWMS manifold
