  • Golf VR6 Oettinger edition???

    Hi all,

I'm new to the world of golfs, I am looking at purchasing a '97 Golf VR6, that the owner tells me is a special edition model from oettinger. It has a small golden badge on the right hand side under the rear taillight, but other then that I have not found any other differences between it and a normal VR6.

I have googled for info and have come up with specs for the oettinger edition stating that it had more power from factory. Is anyone able to confirm any info about an Oettinger special edition, or has any info on them. Because as I said, even google doesn't have much.

    many thanks!!

    Tom

It could be a genuine Oettinger (if they exist), but it could also be that he's chipped it and stuck an Oettinger badge on himself (like I did). Nevertheless good luck with it

I just searched Redbook and couldn't find a special Oettinger model. Unless if he's privately imported it from the UK, NZ or some other RHD country where the model was available, then I think he's pulling your leg. Try and get as much information as you possibly can about this particular Golf, a good idea would be to grab the VIN, take it VW and ask them to run it. You'd be surprised at how much information they can dig up from a simple number.

I think it's this. Heard of an Oettinger edition Mk1 (where they bought them new and tuned them, then re-release them as special editions) but not any other Golf.
              Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
              Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

The Oettinger MK1s were sold in France, 1600 16Valve (soupapes if you are French).

Never been a Oettinger mk3 to my knowledge. There may be engine mods done, difficult to prove without receipts and you wouldn't have that work done then lose them would you.

Any thing on the engine at all, extra data plate?

                I call badge engineering!

It is private sale, I am inspecting it this week, so I will look for any extra evidence. By the sounds of it, it's been badge-engineered, I guess if engine work can be proved with receipts then it's still a decent catch.

You could get an oettinger chip back in the day for a vr6 and they would be happy to give you a badge for what they cost.

However, I agree that there aer no special editions for it sold in Oz and any engine work or chip upgrade is B.S without paperwork.

i believe ive seen this sort of information on the oettinger website as a sort of "kit" type thing they offer.

i havent heard of any Oettinger version VW's except for a few V6 4Motion Boras which had different gear boxes (two different kinds of gear boxes i believe, two different sets of ratios) and different (read:lower/stiffer) suspension and a different body kit. obsiously you can buy their stuff from them but thats the only one ive heard actually coming from a dealership like that
look in the boot under the carpet at the sticker that says all the codes on it, it says kW's and all that stuff, engine number and stuff too. see if the kW's are higher than 128, if so it probably is a genuine thing cos thats a vw sticker from factory so i'd start by looking there.
then check VIN number with a dealership
