VR6 spark plug removal - ummm...

What tool do I need? A regular size spark plug socket bit doesn't fit.
I know there's a (missing) tool that pulls the spark leads (which clips to the bonnet support, but easily goes missing?), or does that tool also unscrew the plugs and lift them up?

5/8ths spark plug socket from memory ?

You just need a 5/8th spark plug socket, on an extension, and then probably a magnetic pickup tool or something to pull them out.

It's definitely a 5/8th socket....normal spark plug socket.

Mmm okay, the one i tried wouldn't fit. Maybe it was a crappy long socket piece disguised as a spark plug socket.

You sure it wasn't a 13/16th socket? They're spark plug sockets too.

Try remove another spark plug with your socket if you can undo it than have a look inside the spark plug bore, the S/Plug you have a problem with (can’t remove); there could be a rubber insert stuck on the spark plug preventing S/P socket to reach S/P hex. (It came off from the inside of the S/P socket when S/Plugs were installed last time - the last mechanic is probably missing that rubber piece since his S/P socket no longer holds the spark plug in)

You will need a thin long screwdriver to break that rubber into smaller pieces to get your socket on the S/Plug. Use vacuum cleaner to suck the broken rubber out.

Yeah the socket I'd previously tried to use was 13/16th. I found a 5/8th one and it fit snug as. Just looking at the tunnel down to each plug they look too narrow for any tool I had. Got off my ass and tried it and whattaya know?
6th plug was pretty oily. Bye engine.
