  • is it just me?

today discovered something a bit odd.
when they key isnt in the ignition, the indicator stalk triggers the respective parking light. this meant to happen for any particular reason? just thought it was strange

    Not just you!

No it is not just you, mine does it too, and if you leave the key in the alarm will sound as if you have left the headlights on, go figure! Not sure what VW were thinking

its designed like that. some european countries require a set of lights to be on if the car is parked on the street at night so that other cars can see them or sumthing like that. its strange coz some cars have it and others dont. my 94 gl has it, my 96 cl didnt and my 94 cl does. your car is a 97 so its not based on year......

yeah the two mk3's ive had both did it. i thought it was to warn you that you left an indicator on.

infact i saw an early auti TT do the same thing the other day so its not just mk3 vw's, audis do it too.

All the VW's I have had do it. Bound to be related to some German law about having lights on when parked at night. I'd be surprised if other German marques don't do it.

I you have a car that doesn't do it, I'd say it broken.....

All German cars do it - BMW and Merc as well as the VAG brands.

It's essentialy a parking light, useful if you are parked on a verge or dark shoulder late at night but don't want to use all four parkers - you can just use two.

Well, my Mk1 doesn't do it (that I'm aware of). Maybe only the German made ones have it?? And mine's in pretty good nick so I doubt it's broken
