  • wet footwell?

There is water dripping from behind the back of the glovebox onto the carpet.
I have been running the aircon non stop and think it may be related to this.

Has anyone had this happen and what do I need to do to fix it?

Probabaly coming down from pollent filter. When was the last time you cleaned the leafs ?

If not it could be coming from one of the gromets.. Had the same problem few weeks ago, water was running in throught the Amp cable. Gave it some slack, it was much better.

        Any other suggestions ??????

You saying you removed the pollen filter & cleaned all the leaves out?

No idea. I just bothered to take the time to read soundofav6s post And was surprised when you said you'd already done the job.

Quite likely the drain hose for the AC is blocked with leaves, kinked, perished, whatever. Try geting unederneath (2 whhels up on gutter & poking some coat hanger wire up the drain tube or blowing some compressed air up there. Maybe even pull the fan out (3 screws IIRC) and pull all the rubbish out.

Are the drain holes up in the plenum clear? (the ones that let the water drain into the mudguards)

                    thanks.

Google Golf Mk3/III pollen / cabin filter removal/change/replacement will give plenty of hits. Also will show where all the leaves hide & the drains are.

                      hey mate,

i've had this and it is related to running the aircon flat out for a while. basically when your a/c is working well and its cold enough moisture condenses on the internal core and drips off (onto my foot in my car).

no solution for it really.... the a/c dries the air out anyway so divertd some to the floor and it'll evaporate away....

well I cleaned the leaves from under the plastic window trim. couldnt find the pollen/cabin filter (do I have one on a 97 cabrio?) also took the glovebox off to see if I could find any more clues.but ran out of daylight so will have another look tomorrow .

I am just a bit worried that if there is water on the carpets every time I use the aircon eventually the floor will start to rust and the carpets will either smell or rot.

fair concerns, but not likely at all from the relatively small amount that you'll get from internal condensation from using hte a/c. if you have a cabrio, its far more likely your car will end up rusting because it leaks rain through the roof (like every other cabriolet in the entire world... personaly experience )

the water is coming in at a fair rate (the carpet is soaked). this is why i am trying to sort it before there is a problem.

Do you have half a clue what you are talking about?

I had a 98 Cabrio and it never leaked a drop through the roof & it was the daily driver in all weather including storms that dumped 300mm in an hour. The car was a watertight as a fishes bum.

It is not normal for condensation from an AC unit to leak onto your feet. In Sydney, with our humid weather, the AC will condense about a litre of water every 10-15 minutes. Having this in the footwells is not a good idea.

OP: keep looking. As I said, take out the fan assembly & have a poke around the drain hose/s(?). None of what is happening is normal or acceptable.
My 98 didn't have a pollen filter - IIRC the inlet for the AC is up on the plenum under the plastic on the passengers side.
