Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Chrome Rings around the dials

    Hey guys,

I bought those DDI dials and the chrome rings off of Nigel, and I intsalled them all no worries except when it comes to screwing the dials back onto the instrument cover (as in the plastic screen part) the chrome rings for the temperature and fuel gauges actually don't clear the gauges - I can't screw the dials in properly. Seeing as the DDI dials are actually stuck onto the original gauges, it's very hard to find a way to make them fit..

I think the reason is because I have a newer style of cluster where the dials are actually slightly raised, instead of being flat; this is quite hard to explain but basically, older styled gauges are 100% flat, while mine are elevated and actually sit further into the front cover.

Has anyone had this problem before, or can anyone suggest what I can do to get the chrome rings to fit? I'm thinking I've got to either shave some of the rings off and carefully glue them un-messily onto the cover, OR make up a new plate for both the temp and fuel gauges so they sit flat instead of raised.
