hmm... i run 16" wheels but not coilovers.

16x7.5 (so same with as many 17's anyway) ET38. lots of room inside on the front, i've had 4.5 deg neg on hte front without getting near the strut. no poke.

on the back, i run a 12mm stub axel spacer so its effectively ET26 - but likewise, even without the spacer, theres still heaps of room in the back since on the mk3, the rear shock is so long below the spring. no clearance issues.

I do think there is a little differenace between CL/GL and VR6. Say a 7inch rim on a CL/GL would be good at et25.

orite then, ill just say it, will a 17x8 E52 rim fit on the rear without coilovers?

also this room you have between the strut and wheel, are we talking 1-2 inches? 10-20-30mm? i need numbers

i need it as close the the shock as possible, plans are a B3 passat (same suspension as mk3) on airride tucking 17's

SO! being same setup, the measurements from the hub to the shocker is the same, now if people say to me 7.5 wide ET35 gives heaps of room, ET50 is only 15mm extra, so everyone things 10mm is HEAPS of room then?

              im confused

                hey mate,
having just actually measured mine for you, with ET26 and 7.5" rims on the back i have at least 35mm of room there. it could be up to 40mm but i couldnt tell properly without jacking th car up... :lazy:

                hope that helps.

cheers dude! thanks alot for that! really needed those measurements.....

so the offset is "do-able" but will be pretty close to touching, but still might work..... not too fussed on 5-10mm spaacers, but i need it as close to the strut as possible

                  thanks mate

                    no probs

oh btw - with my 7.5" and the ET of 26, i can get a little scrubbing towards the front of the arch as the suspension pivots up. dunno what the arches on a passat are like though, or if there's more room. my guards are rolled too (but not right at the front, the arch rolling guy was a big crap at his job actually.)

                    just FYI

well, i test fit the 7.5 on the front of mums VR6, and as you can see its got heaps of clearance, thats with ET50, around 20mm of clearance between the rim and the strut

I've got ET30 7.5" on my B4 Passat and you can park a truck between the strut and the tyre. Different story on the outboard side read: scrubbing.

If you need a Passat to measure anything on let me know
