I've got my camshaft sprocket, crankshaft and distributor rotor lined up where they're supposed to, but I'm having trouble getting the intermediate shaft sprocket to line up with the crankshaft (I took the distributor out and messed up its alignment with the intermediate shaft). Now I'm just wondering, does the intermediate shaft do anything other than turn the distributor? I'm thinking, if I've got the camshaft, crankshaft and distributor rotor aligned, then all should be well and dandy - the intermediate shaft sprocket should just act as a second alignment tool for the distributor?

mate it turns the oil pump and the dizzy, no dramas there, fit it all together and you can remove the dizz if you like and line it up when you are at TDC firing on number 1. Some dizzys have a slot where the bolt goes through then you will have to try and get it slap bang on, if the dizzy doesnt have that then you are laughing. Line up the cam and crank at TDC, fit the dizzy rotor facing the notch on the dizzy housing generally facing number 4 cyl but isnt to crucial as long as its facing no 1 on the cap. Sweet as mate
Cheers

It turns the oil pump, but that doesn't really matter. It's a case of "get the IM shaft as close as you can" and then get the dizzy in the right spot. You only have to line up the IM shaft so that when you do a timing belt, you don't have to re-time the dizzy..

Sweet, thanks fellas. I've got the slot for the oil pump lined up already and have the distributor timed with the crank and camshafts - I just couldn't get the IM shaft to line up when I dropped the dizzy in cos of the helical parts that connect the IM shaft with the dizzy. Pain in the arse to drop it in perfectly, as it always moves off slightly when I think I got it lined up properly. All good then.Last edited by rayray086; 10-10-2009, 01:37 PM.
