Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mk3 CL engine type...

    Hey all,

About to order a cam and some other stuff online.. Just quickly, is the 1.8 in the CL the same as the 1.8s in the Mk2s and so on? Ie: Mechanical head not hydro? Mine is a 95 model.

    Thanks

I don't know if they are the same or not, but I'm sure Mk2 1.8 head is hydraulic lefter.

the two motors are not exactly the same but they're similar enough. most of the internals are interchangeable, cept the golf 3 runs a serpentine belt and the golf 2 runs v-belts.

basic rule of thumb, all 4 cyl petrol golf motors are hydraulic lifter unless they've been converted to mechanical or it's an early mk1 gti heron 1.6.
