It is Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP), it tells ECM when to fire individual cylinders (firing sequence).

You could have a fault in the wiring (broken wire or corroded connection-terminal). Sensor itself could be faulty it is best checked with oscilloscope or graphing multimeter (Snap-on Vantage or similar). You can measure resistance across terminals 1-2 at 3pin connector (white colour) it should be 480-1000ohms or you can do it at ECM pin 69 voltage should be 2V AC

If that sensor fails completely engine will not start.

Here is the link to my google documents.

You get that code if you run vagcom with the engine off.

If you run the program with the car running and the fault cleared and it doesnt come back, you are in the clear.

yeah engine was running made sure i asked the mechanic.
im pretty sure it isnt the sensor as it was replaced less than 3 months ago!!

thanks transporter ill have to take it to an auto elect to get tested.
also could a dirty contact cause the fault?? cos there is a bit of oil built up on in the area???

        cheers

Is the engine performing badly or doing anything wrong?

If the car is performing properly and not doing anything strange, then don't worry too much about the fault.

Sensors will occasionally throw a code even when they're working properly and unless you're trying to track down a symptom, there's no point in tearing your hair out.

yeah the engine is not running smooth and feels slightly low on power, feels like something is out of balance!!!!

i need new engine mounts but i dont think that they would make the engine run ruff.

You'd be surprised how much of a nuisance/''powercut'' they can be! If the mounts are loose/bolts aren't seated properly your engine moves more than normal and you feel all of it while you drive and engage gears etc. Not nice.
