I ran my mk2 without an air box at all at one stage, i guess thats like having a pod filter. It was louder with the box and was deeper. The more holes i drilled the more the growl would go up in pitch, the holes where about the size of a 20c coin.
Pod filters are for ricers. A guted air box with a K&N is the way to go.MK1 GLS 3door

I had a BMC panel filter in a stock airbox before I got my CDA. No real noise increase from a fully stock setup, just slightly better throttle response.Originally posted by Water Boy View PostAnyone have any benefit from the K&N Panel filter? Also noise???? I want seriouse hectik fully bamn induction

I made it happen. Read my verdict.Originally posted by stotto View PostSorry to post hijack, but i was in the shed and had an idea.
could somehting like this work ?

could you modify your stock airbox to house a pod ?. Just by eyeing it out, it looks like it could be done with only a few mods. (smaller pod would help aswell)

I am still not convinced a shielded pod makes much of a difference useless Force Induction is involved.
Someone has said to me once "why bother with heat shield? When the car is running along, hot air is naturally pushed out anyways". I am sure this is open up for debate.
Nevertheless, a Cold air intake does follow a logic and does have an appeal.

I think he's saying it's good, but only if you want to burn up much more fuel than normal.
I reckon it would be pointless to do a MAFless setup unless you were working the engine. If the engine was normal and you wanted a sspiced up induction, keep your MAF and swiss cheese your airbox with a new panel filter or go for an enclosed pod/CAI.Mrk Detailing, premium automotive detailing. it took me a while to find one. when i looked at the price of them locally, it was pretty expensive. and my jeans with the bottomless pockets were in the wash.
ebay uk ---> relatives in N. Ireland ---> then they posted out to me, worked out cheapest at the time.
i had a pod setup before. an aluminium plate with heat reflector+foam stuck to the motor side helped keep the heat out to some extent but not a lot.
CDA ftw!!!!

and there is a distinct growl to the CDA setup that you dont seem to get with a pod or swissbox i reckon. a much more throaty or agressive noise without sounding like a vs commowhore with extractors and some piping imitating a v8 as best it can
