is an electrical locking system possible?

my central locking motor finally gave out after i tried to repair it twice.

I'm just wondering how hard it would be to install an electrical system into the doors instead of the air system? If I'm thinking right, the door latch mechanisms will need to be changed to something else because they run on air It would be very nice if I could do it though, because it would make remote central locking easy/have more capabilities than if put into the air system.

Any info is appreciated.

stu's got remote central on his mk 3.

he used some bits of a ebay central locking kit. don't know what bits though. ask ihm.

short answer is yes.

you could by any aftermarket central locking kit (eg from jaycar) and retro-fit it to your car.

however, i would be very surprised if that will amount to less effort than swapping in another pump

I know you can still get remote central locking, but I was asking mainly about the air system in the car currently versus a replacement electrical system.

it's about $80 for a new pump, so I thought that it might be possible to spend about the same and have a worry-free electrical system in there

We put one of the kits in an old Falcon, expect it to be more than $80, and a bit of a screw around, and don't assume an $80 kit is going to be reliable. Nevertheless it's doable but you might be going out of your way to fit something not as good as a working standard system.
