Recently got our first Golf Mk 3 and noticed last night that the gear stick does not light up to indicate what gear you are in and the VW factory stereo also is not lit up. Is it as simple as a fuse or something more serious? I searched these forums and could not find any info, so I apologise if it has been covered.

Cant remember about the stereo but the factory gearstick doesnt light up at all. If its an aftermarket one i would take the gear boot off and have a look at the wiring. Test it with a multimeter if need be. -
is the gearstick factory?? i didnt know they lit up. would look cool though. i have a similiar prob with my vr6 where the lights around the a/c and temp dials only light up about once every couple of months. looked at the wiring but seems fine and fuse is ok.... clueless
