auto diff oil

Douse anyone know if the oil from the pan end up in the diff or is the diff toped up some other way ,changed the oil and filter on my old tranny but when i took it out the diff oil was black as. so hadnt drained when i had the pan off maybe the diff has to be filled up via the speedo drive hole or something and how much, would like to get this sorted as im not sure as to how much oil the replacement tranny has in the diff ,pugs

Its all the same oil mate. Its about 2.5Ls.
It should be transmax Z or dextron 3 whichever it says on the dipstick.
