Buying my first Mk3, what should i look out for.

G'day all.
I am new to the water cooled side of the house and will be buying a 96 GL in a couple of months.
I wanted to know if there was anything that i needed to look out for, or any common problems that may occour.

Check the gaps in the seals of the rear doors, they are on the floor. Ive seen a few mk3s with rust in the gap of the seal.

Wheel bearings - that whine that developes into a roar as you go faster : )

Easy to diagnose on a hoist too, usually, by rotating the wheels and seeing if any of them drag.

Cheers for the advice, i will be sure to take it on board.
I have a mate ( VW workshop manager) who has agreed to have a look over the Golf for me.
I had a little look over the car today, and well, it leaves a little to be desired.

Wow, don't think I've seen the pinstripe on the trim before! it's very....mk1/2-esque.

I agree with sydVR6. Wheel bearings are the brain's nemesis. They literally DRIVE you mad (I'm not joking...I've had wheel bearings problems for a year now and it sheets me no end!).

I have had wheel bearings go in my forester before, i constantly thought i was being followed by a low flying aircraft when ever i went over 80kmh.

Every golf I've been to look at has had the pinstripe. Minus 1.
