I have a drivers seat that has a very worn back cushion. I can buy a second hand passeger side seat in very good condition andm would like to swap the cushions onto my drivers seat. Anyone done this or know if its a goer? Mk III Tdi Golf.

Are you talking about the foam in the seat? If so, I'd replace the whole seat. It's not going to cost you any less to do so because the time wasting involved in fitting PARTS of seats up is tremendously not worth it.
I'm not sure whether or not yours come with the 'vr6' bucketed sportier seats, but if not, just get a pairMrk Detailing, premium automotive detailing. Paint correction/protection specialist. PM me

Yup, you can swop over the passenger squab onto the drivers seat.
Basically you take the plastic covers off the side of the seat, undoo the bolts and clips to separate the back and bottom of seat.
With the back, you turn it upside down, unbend the little metal clips that hold the fabric along the bottom, unpeel it like a banana, unclipping the metal rods as you go. remove the headrest and reverse order with the new fabric to reassemble.
Base of seat has wire that tensions the fabric and little bent clips, undoo them to remove the fabric and cushion and swop for the passenger one.
The advantage to doing what you suggest is that the passenger seat will have had loads less wear and will revitalize your interior.
