  • 1.8t

has any one here or no of any one that has put a 1.8 t out of a mk4 or a audi in a mk3 if so how hard would it be.

It would be easiest to put in a VR6, as that has a more suitable gearbox to start with. I have a std A3 gearbox/linkage and a heap of other useful parts for under the bonnet if you wanted to convert a 4 pot.

Don't jump on board with the stand alone management argument. You can run it with the OE stuff.

I have an AGU engine loom and ECU etc in my garage. I could have it tuned for you, if you wanted it.

There's a lad in WA doing an S3 conversion into a MK2 which isn't so far removed from what you're asking.

A front cut is what you want, with the electrics intact.

Personally I don't see the point. VR6=128kw, 1.8T (even chipped) is what 148kw? For the price you're better off supercharging a VR6 and getting 190-ish kw and monstrous Torque. Or turbo a VR6 for even higher gains for probably about the same coin.

Maybe because the 1.8t is a newer engine, more reliable, better on fuel lighter? Just some of the reasons I would consider it

not to mention the head flows better.
free flowing 5 valves vs. choking 2 valves per cylinder.

that being said, i do have a vr6... haha

Fair enough to all that BUT if you're after a significant power increase the 1.8T is a snoozer unless you spend big $$ on it on top of the already spendy conversion.

i reckon thats probaly true. 1.8t is a wicked engine. but so is the vr6

traction might be a little harder to get a hold of with the 1.8t being such a light engine compared with the VR. that being said, spend less money and get the same power with the vr and still have trouble getting traction...

If he hasn't got a VR6 in it to start with the supercharger is out for me.

A 200 horsepower MK3 would be pretty quick. If he got an s3 motor, he could go over 250hp.

What if you have a vr6... Turbo or supercharer or both? Superchrger in the engine bay and remote mount a turbo or two in the boot ^_^ hahaha if only it were possible :p

on a more seriouness note, what would make more power on the vr6 2.8, turbo or supercharger?

20v T is a common mod back in the uk/europe.
                            mk1/2&3's
                            simple way to get 200bhp+

The bonus back home is that 20v engines are cheap.
I am guess it isnt done here in Oz so much is due to the lack engines (our just there resale price)

For me theres nothing like the instant kick of a well sorted N/A engine.

This being said I would love to see a 1.8t in a mk3, it'd be lighter and easier on fuel. The vr6 is a nose heavy beast!

If I was a rich man with way too much time I'd try and cram a mk5 gti engine into a mk3, but thats getting off topic a bit, innit? Oh oh, and maybe a modern TDI engine in a mk3 too, yeah!!
