  • i got a little stretch...

went from 205/45's to 195/45's today - new tyres are Maxxis Victra MA-Z1.

actually, i only have 2 at the moment.

when the tyres came off, discovered that one of my wheels was badly buckled (but still balanced) and another had a crack in the inner bead... so they are at the wheel repair shop right now...

anyhoo, i just thought i'd share a pic or two of what the tyres look like on my 7.5" rims.

Noice. Were the tyre people happy to fit them? The places I went to thought I was an idiot and tried talking me out of it.

If you tell them its not for a road car they will often do it. A lot of tyre places see it as being unsafe and un-roadworthy so can refuse stretching tyres.

Look great mate, 195/45s on 7.5s often come out well

hehe - nah they were happy to do it, no probs at all - infact, he didnt mention it at all. i just said i wanted them a bit skinnier so i had better clearance and he was happy . it was an older bloke too.... haivn said that, they arent your average tyre place. i've bought 3 sets of tyres from them now and they are always happy to help out - they'll ring around and get a range of options for me in the size i want..

..and they lent me another wheel so i could drive my car home this morning. (i only have 1 spare, shux.)

well....i was quoted $171.60 each... and i was charged $129.00 each.

i don't know why that happened but i wasnt complaining (or asking).

as far as i can tell, $170 each is a good price.

on another note, my wheels were reapaired. both were re-rolled to straighten them up and the crack was cut and welded. i'm happy with the work but i'm considering a new set of wheels now anyway - the speedlines are beautiful but they are definately showing their age and have had a pretty hard life.

Looks great dude. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the Maxxis tyres too. Price versus quality they're right up there in my opinion!

2nd hand tyres are available at hte tyre place i use (west gosford tyre service) in behind the metro/hungry jacks complex on central coast hwy.

i doubt that they will have 4 of the size you want though...

tyre review - Maxxis MA-Z1 Victra

so i thought i'd let you in on how these things go, after a little wet weather we've had.

basically - GREAT. these tyres are really sticky in the wet. seem to be exceptional in straight line wet grip, both accelerating and braking. cornering they seem on par with conti's i've had and driven on.

still havent really pushed them in the dry.

very quiet tyres - very little noise at any speed.

i would say the best value for money in this size range i've ever had.

Exactly what i found. I'm very impressed with the ones on the Caddy.

Sweet, will look into them when my tyres need a replacement. If only my wheels were half an inch wider for that look even 195's on my wheels just don't have any stretch.

                              They look great dude
