  • VR6 Hard start

I have problem with starting my VR6. Need to turn key few times before start engine in the morning plus need to push acceleration pedal a little bit. During day time start after 2-3 times turning key. Look similar when you start engine with spare key without immobilizer - just start and cut-off few times before start normally.
All rest is 100% normal: power, driving, acceleration, fuel consumption....jus bad is start!
Can be: fuel pump, fuel filter, maf sensor, fuel pressure regulator, ignition coil, fuel line, vacuum line, coilpack, crank sensor, too many to listed...........
    Any help or sugestions please.
    THANKS

If what you're describing is actually choking of the engine, my guess would have been fuel. People always told me change my fuel filter if I haven't done in a while which should help.
Boris, I suppose if you check everything for abnormalities you should find something if not then it will be something common that one of the mechanics on here will know about.

Ignition switch maybe? When mine was on the way out it would take 2 or 3 goes to get the car started. Was a 15min and $25 fix once I worked out what it was!!

That is a good point and cheap. I will order one from USA, becasue is not expensive and change upon delivery. Thanks Lorenz

Yes only like 1 1/2 months ago week after easter.

But I had the same symptoms on start up it would try and then nothing.

Just reading it again it could also be the ignition immobilser.

I find on e-bay few type of fuel pumps and all is for golf 1.8 2.0 and 2.8. I think for VR6 2.8 should be 4bar and for other 1.5-2.bar.Is it correct?

I think some later vr6 models had a 3 bar pump didnt they? That seems to be what ETKA suggests. I know a lot of the parts sites like mjm have a vr6 3 bar pump and a 4 bar one.

I dont reckon it will be a fuel pump issue though.

Holding pressure??????? check that , having to crank means you may be building the cranking to build the pressure up. Have you had a log done on the ecu????? Think basic before jumping at a fuel pump.

Could be temp sensor switch too. Throwing too much fuel in when cold which is why it starts after a few goes with an open throttle.

Yep too right mate, the coolant temp sensor is a major contender there, too much fuel for sure, scan and log the ecu and see what its doing, if this is ok then check your holding pressure.
