Hmm.. Seems harder to find a good GL 2.0 than I thought...

Are 1.8L decent at all? Did any of the CLs have electric windows as an option?

What about the 1997-on 1.6L GL's? Are they a decent engine?

      there is 10 on ebay

this one is the best by my eye:

sigpicMy NA 2.0L 8v Mk3 Golf is faster than my 174kw twin turbo Supra. V8 utes and over modified Skylines hate being overtaken by old Golfs

Do mk3 Golfs need premium or are they happy to drink regular 91RON?

lets just say that it won't stop working immediately...

91 doesn't have enough octane in it to get the right timing in the engine so it makes a pinging noise when you accelerate. This noise is caused by the ignition in the pots when the piston is not at the end of it's rotaion... I know that may seem a bit hard to get your head around but there is videos explaining engine timing and different fuels around the intarwebz.

95 and 98 are the best. I get 98 whenever I can because I love to hear the engine purr.

This is probably the wrong forum...

But since Golf GLs are still a bit out of my budget.. would I be better off with a mK2 Gti? Ive seen a few on the for sale forums here for around 3-4k?

8v im guessing.. how are these to drive, own and maintain ?

I don't own one, but from what I hear they're a great fun little car to have. If you can find one without any problems that are gonna cost you, then I'd say it would be a good idea. Maintenance advice would best be sought from the mk2 section of this form
