  • Distributor trouble

ok, my distributor is screwed... when the car is running, the sparks are not always gettin to the spark plug leads, they can be seen coming out from under the central lead that comes from the power source. the effect is a short circuiting and backfiring... not to mention a crazy clicking noise....

i have also had problems with pinging... generally come from the timing of the distributor, so i have been taking that back ever so slightly...

so all in all i think i need a new distributor cap, unless someone else has any other ideas about why it is doing the things it does.

Your dizzy cap probably still has its jacket on??????? if it has take it off and you will find a load of carbon build up there mate. Clean all that up and retry , but probably best with a new one but keep the jacket well away from it mate, its a source of build up.
