  • Models of VR6

    Hi guys,

was doing a search..can't find anything..(maybe not hard enough)...

as by now, everyone should know i am looking for a MK3 VR6 ....from WTB to this section...etc

Have some options coming along my way..

would like to know the difference between 94 VR6s to 97 VR6s. Interior, exterior, performance?

    cheers

from what I understand almost nill.

I think the engine immobilizer was installed after 1994 model..

Also not sure if the computer is OBD2... I think this came in from 1996 onwards.

Golf Loon will be up to date on most of this.

Performance wise all vr6's are the same. Only differences in models based on year across the entire golf range which is well documented already. Interior is relatively unspecific as far as i know. Some quick facts

      Pre Aug 94
      -textured bumper tops
      -textured side trims
      -square fender indicators
-front guard mounted antenae (all vr6 had roof mounted)
-side skirts and wheel arches for vr6
-single chamber headlights (dual for vr6 i think)
      -spoiler mounted third brake light

      Post 94
      -colour coded bumpers
      -colour coded side trims
      -oval bumper indicators
      -dual chamber headlights
      -immobiliser (as mentioned)
-third brake light inside hatch glass

Some variances are seen where a 95 car might still have textured bumpers etc so be wary about that. Might have missed some stuff so someone else might chime in

well 93-94 switched from Dizzy vr6 engine to Coilpack engine.
well 94 early and late. They switched from no immobilizer to immobilizer
Upgraded brakes from 280mm to 288mm same as mk4 1.8T.
Same period switched from OBD1 (twin plug system that basically check the engine only) to OBD2 (single plug next to the ashtray, checks engine,ABS,Airbags, a few other computers too)

They always stated the Dizzy VR6 is faster than the OBD2 coil pack engine.

Also the changed the front suspension mounting system and also spring size.

These are the few quick things i can remember off the top of my head.

          94 - original
95 - bigger brakes and upgraded ABS, Immobiliser, different struts/springs
96 - fender flares deleted, textured plastics on the bumpers now colour coded, some small changes engine wise eg. throttle body is different, oval side indicators instead of square

Performance is mostly the same across the board.

there are other things as well. Just cant think of them off the top of my head

This was touched on in another thread if someone can find it in a search.

In my VR6 (early, 94) my idle vacuum line connects to my intake tube (i'm not sure what for, I think it's just for oil catching). On the later model VR6's this was deleted.
