  • tyre stretching question

I was wondering what size tire to put on an 8" wheel to match the stretch of a 215/40/16 on a 9" wheel? If that makes sense? Would it be a 195 or a 205? Also is there 205/40/16? I'm falling asleep right now but I seem to remember only seeing 205/45'/16's. Thanks for any suggestions.

    My 205/40R16 (Nankang NS2) over 8":

If you go for 195, get 195/40R16. They exist but they are a rare size and may cost a fortune if there are any. Otherwise, just get 205/40R16. 195/45R16 will actually provide less clearance than a 205/40R16 since the sidewall is taller.

Also, I've found Falkens to look the best when stretched.

205/40's exist. check out ebay. they often have some kumhos ecstas for like 600 or 700 for the set.

i'd say 195's would match the 215's stretch better, to compare, i had 215's on my 9.5's and now have 205's on my 8's, both adrenalins cuz they're a wicked tyre and seem to stretch well . . .

195/50/16 can also be had... i've seen a few kick around. you have that on 15x8 dont you ray?

surely the same size profile on a 16" rim would look even less?

The same size profile means the same amount of tyre width between edge and rim. If the profile is 50, it's gonna look like a balloon on a 14 inch wheel just like a 17 inch wheel.

Looks like you can get both the sizes I'm tossing up between - 205/40 and 195/40. I still haven't decided what width but I think I might go with kumho excstas.
