I dont think its worth 7 stacks, i got my VR for 8.5 and that was over a year ago. Even though its a buyers market right now I dont think that's gonna sell, as people dont know ventos and its a high price. I reckon wait for a while as theres probably better vento's out there, some of them 5 speed. Also i'm not that big a fan of tornado red or whatever it is... blue or grey would go nicely though...

Vento's generally have a higher resale value than Golfs, must be the boot factor... A nice golf can be had for no more than 6k, a nice vento is 7k or thereabouts. Everybody seems to want a small sedan, but it also means that you won't be able to grab a bargain, never seen one on an auction listing though...

I would certainly go and look at that Vento,as it looks impressive...its very clean, and is the 1996-7 updated model.
Let us know what you think of it,must be worth close to 7K.
Thety are fantastic cars,I owned a new one in the US,called Jetta 3 2.0 GL,and then another in South Africa, badged as a Jetta CSX.

it's all well and good that we know these details and how much they 'should' be worth, but i can almost guarantee the dealer wouldn't have a clue what the hell it is and how much it 'should' be worth.

have a quick look of redbook (which all used car dealers use). it says for a '96 model GL the top dollar is $3,900 for a private sale. add the dealers extra for stat warranty, premium for low km's, and the 'supposed' extra for the fully sick rims... and they put an asking price of $6,990. i'm sticking to my $5,000 advice, maybe even less coming to think of it more. you pay $7k for it and the dealer will be laughing.

Thats just a maximum, what if you say found a nice Vento with leather and a sunroof with 90k on the clock in manual in nice nick, wouldn't you be willing to pay 7k for it?

I sold my old GL for twice the minimum redbook value, its only good for looking at prices of ex-fleet vehicles and more domestic products...

See how you go anyway, if you really find a gem its worth paying for as you already know

of cource everything varies like that, take my mk1 for instance, there will be a few narrow people thinking wtf 8k for a mk1, i could just buy another mk1 for $800, its still the same car, and yyes i would pay 7k for a fully optioned leatherd out vento

well...... i saw the red one today, very straight but some stonechips on the bonnet, 1 or 2 scratches on the rear quarters but all and all pretty tidy, starts up fine, no knocking or anything, the only problem was one of the rear windows doesnt work, but what turned away was 2 things

1: i called up for an address and she asked what car i was interestted in, i said the vento and she said that it just come in last week, i noticed that there printed licence frame on the vento had faded lettering and looked very aged, therefore its been sitting for a while......

also i asked if anything was wrong with the car and she replied with "no absoloutley nothing, shes pretty tidy isnt she?" first off the rear window didnt work and second of all the rear handle, speaker grill and window button were in the rear footwell!!! along with cut wires scatterd everywhere and not to mention the crap stuck to the rear armrest when you pull it down!

i also had a silver one in mind and i called him at the start of the week and organised a time over this weekend to come and see it, i said if anything changes let me know......, i called him again to see if i can come and see it 2night, apparently he sold it this morning! wtf! thanks for the heads UP F**kface! i wonder when he was gonna tell me it got sold................ arrrgh...... im going to bed!

shame... must have been hit that side and they've patched it up at the last minute can you do a REV's or equivalent check on the car to see its been a repaired write off?

Front up to them honestly and ask what is wrong, show your exstensive knowledge of VWs and this model in particular and itemise what everything you've noticed should cost to fix. explain that this model has problems with window regs/motors and this isn't always a cheap fix. If this is the one, I would say just talk their heads off and battle that price down until they are blatantly honest with you about the car.

If it was me though, I'd probably sit it out and wait for a better one, but if that window is getting fixed then i suppose that's one that certainly won't need fixing later.

Good luck with it mate, I'm seeing more of these lately up here, they're definately different and cool.
