  • Throttle Body baseplate Burnt

    Hi all,

just found out that the baseplate is totally knackered. the rubber mount has totally perished, so the trottle body is just sitting on the intake manifold. So I disconnected the throttle body from the fuel and air cleaner and it just lifted out. Half the baseplate stayed on the intake manifold and the other half on the throttle body.
I have a new one on order from the UK (about 60% less than in NZ including freight).
The funny?? thing is the underside of the throttle body side of the baseplate looks all burnt!

    Any thoughts??

Someone must have thought that sucking fire into the engine would create more combustion!! hahahaha

    No ideas...very weird symptom!

Thatd be just carbon build up, nothing to worry about. A good blast of carby cleaner will usually clean it. By baseplate u mean the gasket?

I've just checked, but I don't think it's carbon buildup.

OK, the new flange arrived this morning. It only took 5 days from the UK.
It's all together and the starts, but I think I need to do a trottle body alignment. I have trawled through the net and it seems I have to go to a garage and get it done with vagcom. Is this right?
I did see somewhere that it can be done by turning the ignition on and then off and then back on for a certain period of time, but i can't find that thread again

any ideas before I have to start forking out for this?
