VR6 Overheating

Hi, I have a 96 VR6 that is running hot, pulled the thermostat today (what fun) and it is OK. Now that I have the radiator out as well I wanted to know can these be overhauled (or reconditioned in any way). Any other hints would be very much appreciated.

i do not believe they can be overhauled, but they should only be around $25 - 50. So not like they are expensive.

Do you think your thermostat is not working hence causing the over heating?
