  • VR6 drinking oil like its owner drinks scotch

Gday...stright to the point i have a Golf VR6....chewing up some oil...doesnt appear to be a leak so gotta be rings or the valve seals. Havent had time to get a wet/dry comp test done yet so not too sure. What i want to jknow is how much can i expect a mechanic to charge me to redo the valve seals in australia? anyone been charged for this service before??

    cheers....

Hopefully its Ballyntynes or something equally cheap ...

Could be a headgasket leak, do you see any leaking oil around the engine bay, at the back of the block?

          is it blowing blue smoke?

is there any oil residue in your cooling system?

only had the car for a short time, got it off the folks, dad said careful oil gets low. i pumped 2 litres into it the other day, havent driven much but holding its level so far. i did rev it hard the other day and the oil light flashed, restarted the car and it went away. have wound it out since and no hassles.

cant see smoke...but then its hard to from the drivers seat

the head gasket has already been done, not sure exactly but shouldnt have more than 50,000kms with new gasket...

i have noticed quite a lot of oil out the back of the motor upon inspection...would this be the head gasket or could be a number of things?

and on the issue of scotch.....im not fussy.....whatever you want to send me!

PS seems ok on power...would gasket/rings/valve seal leaks cause noticable power loss?

How many Km has it done?

A second hand engine would be cheaper if you can get yr hands on one...bucks for a rebuild would be better spent on an R or something
