  • Time for new wipers... thanks vandals!

Ok so some bogan/dero kids moved in up the street and all of a sudden all this vadalism has started occuring.

This is what happened on friday night...

They kinda saved me some work... I now how no more rear wiper and the badge is half gone.

This is what they did to the front:

The drivers side wiper is bent out to buggery and the spring is gone so it flails all over the place when I turn it on.
The passenger side is not so bad but they still managed to bend it slightly.

I've bent both of them back into place and thankfully the weather is looking pretty sunny until next weekend so I should be all OK until I get a chance to take a better look at them.

What I really wanted to know is how easy a single wiper conversion is (and where i would get one) or whether I should just whack on some nice bosch aero replacement ones...

    What do you guys think?

I'm not too worried about the rear wiper or badge (or the plate recess for that matter) if you get my drift

im prety sure single wiper blade conversions r illegal but u can always do it haha. ther are some really good wipers going around, unfortunelt they dont make em for mk3 in the bosch. prty sure if u go to one of those little asian car shops they should b able to sort you out.

Yeah, I'm also pretty sure they're illegal.

What you can do though, is break off one of your wipers, then mosey up to the house with the kids and beat the stuffing out of them with it. Those little bastards need a lesson taught!!!

Single wipers arent illegal provided they wipe at a certain cycle per minute (its on the rta website). Downside is that there isnt any good aftermarket kit that fits well and is within reasonable price so dont bother. Shame about these vandals, they should be castrated!

That's ****ed... though it did get you motivated didn't it haha.

Have some fun for a day:

That's for a left-hand drive vehicle though, so remember you just have to look into it in reverse.

Nice info Pedro! good to know... do you know how many wipes per minute it is?

Thanks for that DIY guide Ray. I'll be looking at that tomorrow afternoon.

There is something else I have to worry about now... it rained on the way home from a BBQ tonight. The BBQ was 20km away from home and a left there at 9pm... I only just walked in the door at 12.20pm...

I've worked out this forumla from tonights ventures:
                    r+P+w2=f+b+A

                    r - Rain
                    P - Poor Visibility
                    w - broken wipers
                    f - flat tyre
                    b - buckled rim
                    A - Angry Lachlan

I've got to be on a train at 6.15am tomorrow morning so i should probably sleep...

Bosch do make aeros for the MK3 (i know I have them ), they're not listed on their site but the part number is #AR533S

                        Try this place, where I got mine from and they were great. Reasonable postage and only took about a week-ish to get here;

We offer the biggest selection of quality wiper blades at the best prices. Choose from Bosch, Michelin, Lucas, Valeo, Trico & SWF all with fast dispatch.

                        P.S. Aerotwin's are f**king FANTASTIC!!

Thanks man i'm looking towards some of them. The aerotwin's look pretty nice

I need to replace the drivers side wiper arm though... It looks like I will have to get them from VW. can anyone point me to a part number for it?

hmmm... being that the passenger side is fine, and the DIY conversion only requires the passenger side, its looking like a pretty convenient mishap.

Overall this little act of vandalism is going to cost me quite a bit anyway because the pothole that I hit while I couldn't see means that I have to replace a tyre and a buckled rim... $350 cha-CHING!

sorry to hear 'bout the car.
if you take your chassis no into a vw dealer they can find the part no, I've just ordered a wiper arm for my cabrio and the theives charged $72 and its going to take 2-3 weeks .
maybe see if someone is breaking a car, you should be able to get a 2nd hand one to get you going.
I **** myself every time I leave my car anywhere, there are so many muppets out there i think one day my roof is going to be slashed.

So I have sorted all this out now...

I removed the rear wiper motor and sealed up the hole left by the wiper arm.

If anyone else is looking at doing this, the hole is exactly 1". This is what I used: Champion Blanking 1" grommets.

I also managed to bend the front arms back into shape (after ALOT of force - those things are just about as sturdy as the rest of these german tanks....)
This is what I bought on the weekend from Supercheap

Bosch Aerotwins on sale for $23 each. They look SO good and they wipe so cleanly!

Sorry for the blurry photos, iPhones don't take good macro shots due to lack of focus...
