  • Headlights - what are the options

Basically I'm not happy with the brightness that the current ones are putting out. I understand this is due to the bulbs and have nothing to do with the actual housing, but I'm thinking of getting a new pair to freshen up its look anyway.

I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction where I can find some in Sydney, NSW, or even just Australia.

I'm not keen on getting mk4 look-a-likes, at least unless they have angel eyes too (like this) or ones with a black background.

Ideally, I'd get me some of these:

But I want to know - does anyone know of some great master solution, pref with bulbs included thats easy to install and all that jazz.

    Cheers

Headlight installs are a 10min job with a screwdriver, and this is speaking from experience and I am VERY mechanically incompetent!

Have a good in the 'pics that inspire you' thread in the general section for loads of mk3's with aftermarket lights and see what pleases you.

Personally I have hella dual rounds which are projectors and put out way, way more light then the stockies. There not on the car atm but when they are, I can actually SEE at night!

I think this was one of my first questions asked when I became a member here

The response I got was....basically nobody in Australia will sell good ones to you, and if they do they'll want lots for them. You can get them from Germany ebay, German and American tuning sites, and of course American eBay although those headlights will most likely point in the wrong direction.

The brands to look out for (for quality, that is) is FK, InPro, Hella. You can actually source all these from TMTuning. They are a bit pricy, but I've seen some pairs in the flesh and the quality is second to none. I'd like to think I could upgrade mine with a pair from them

How serious are you thinking of getting a pair?

After you confirming what I thought I'm starting to think the best (definitely cheapest) route to take is to just get bulbs and do a diy black-out job, having said everything before. i think the stockies with the black outlining would still look nice with the burgundy.

im pretty rubbish at diy though and would probably outsource it to someone for a small fee anyway. throw me a pm if your interested in making a deal, i could probably benefit from a navman too if youre short on cash.

Out of curiosity I did a v. quick and rough photoshop of OzVR6's lights on (with also a black vw badge), they dont look too bad actually, especially after being lowered and some black rims

            possible future vision:

i think it looks good. what are your opinions?

If u wanna sharpen up the front end i think a badgeless grill does more wonders than headlights and arent so expensive as new headlights.

I agree, nice chop hehe. I dunno man, forking out for new headlights isn't always the best thing. I wanted to do it for ages but then Ray helped me smoke mine and I fell in love with them again

Only reason I'd be looking to upgrade would be to get some with indicators in them; I'd hate to lose the stock headlights. My opinion? Smoke yours

Yeah it is hard to find headlights. American and European ones are for LHD, which rules out those. Best place to look is the UK I guess, but then you get slaughtered by postage costs.

                      My experience.

Both of the genuine hella headlights that I had, the tabs were broken off on the inside and the lights pointed virtually a few meters in front of the car.

I purchased a set of Angle Eye's from a guy in Cherrybrook... and they looked great but the brackets did not fit like original... and I was unwilling to pack them... so I returned these.

I purchase a Taiwanese exact replacements to the hella with the glass covers etc and they fitted great ! I also replaced the bulbs and the improvement is significant ($280)

I am also planning to purchase a $50 HID kit from HongKong soon which should be another step up.

With the after market lights you should check the quality of the front covers... the newer ones are plastic and really poor... they also have stickers which say do not use with HID..... at least the ones I purchased did...

                        I have those very lights in your pic in the first post. They are FK "Powerlooks" and I absolutely love em! They are made for LHD yes but mine aligned perfectly with some adjustment. Some brands have more adjustment in them than others and the FK's work great. Big improvement over the stockers in looks and performance. I bought mine from this dude in germany, shipping was way cheap and fast and he was easy as to deal with;

that guy buys all his stock off ebay and then ups the price by $100. If you are willing to pay for it, its a good service. otherwise, put up with the HK sellers and get them off ebay. you will save yourself quite a bit.
