I don't know if this has come up before as I didn't search, but I wonder if anyone else likes the mk3 harlequins? They're pretty cool I think, especially ones with colour matched wheels and tails. Some owners have put VR's in them and some are even VRT I believe.

Was this only a north american promotion or are there any in europe or even australia? At first I thought they were stupid but they are about the ultimate collectable VW, as there was only a couple of hundred made I believe, and no doubt less than that surviving. There's even a site somewhere (I forget the URL) which is a register of all the people who own them, their location and some have pics too.

I love them. It's just so quirky and attention grabbing, which is what I love about VWs. They were just an American promotion - I believe it was for the Atlanta Olympics or something like that. Not many of them came out - random numbers are usually thrown around but I think 200 has been the most quoted number. The rear quarter panel/sill/roof colour was the original colour of the car and they just mix'n'match the other panels around. Four different colours I think it was - Jazz blue, Flash red, Ginster yellow and Pistachio green - so it was probably 50 of each.

Vortex has a lot of info on them!

Yeah pistachio green was like a collectable within a collectable... only a handful of pistachio green bases were made I believe. I'd love to ride in one just to see peoples reactions.

Hahaha nice one Louis..I wonder how long it would take to do it?

I've always thought they were a cool gimmick but it would wear off VERY quickly if you keep seeing it (ie you own it). I'd get bored of it very easily.

I remember reading about those, apparently due to the possible number of colour combinations and the number of panels that each care is perfectly unique in it's own right with no two cars that are alike.

I personally would love to own one, just it'd have to a VR in it

Least you wouldn't have to worry about colour matching if you dented a panel or something
