[VR6] help, temp light on the dash flashing when cold

so anyway, still having issues starting the car.
takes a coupla goes with some gas and she eventually kicks up and all is fine. no problems driving at all.

now what seems to be happening, is that when it starts up from cold and is idling, the temp light starts to flash. a coupla off and ons seem to make it stop, or if im on the go, a rolling jump start fixes it also.

im assuming this is the cause of my starting issues as the temp sensor is faulty (pressumably seeing it as too hot or whatever) and not putting in enough fuel for a cold start.

anyone have any ideas on what to check? anyone one have a vagcom in vic? anyone? anyone?
