MAF sensor location

Can anybody tell me where the MAF sensor is located in a ADZ 1.8CL Golf motor? Doesn't appear to be just outside the Air Box like in the 2.0 or I could be wrong?

There is not one. Its all integral with the singlepoint unit.

Is the car running right? I`d leave the singlepoint unit alone, they are delicate.

Its basically an electronic carby with one injector. It has a TPS on the side and a couple of other sensors. The only other bit to the system is the temp sensor in the water oulet and the ecu.

The idle has become a bit rough, ok when revs are up. Most ignition parts are new. I'm hearing a rumbling boomy exhaust sound now at certain revs so maybe I should head in that direction.

Check all the vacuum lines. There is one lage line from the back of the singlepoint unit and a smaller one to the air cleaner. Check they are both in and not frayed through.

Also grab the top of the unit and rock it side to side to check the rubber gasket under it is intact.

Not usually, you can use some carby cleaner if you like. I`d get the unit checked by a professional.

Thanks for your help. I'm now in the Newcastle area. I know a good European trained mechanic but if you know any others who might specialise in VW I'd be happy to hear. Thanks again for the assistance. When I get a chance I'll be checking the vacuum lines as suggested.
