  • 1.8T into Mk3 FAQs

Hey guys, thinking about doing this mod down the track for a daily driver.

I read with interest the conversion of VR6 motor into Mk2, but wondered whether anyone has done the conversion of 1.8T from Mk4 Golf/Passat/Audi A3 etc into a Mk3 in oz...

Golf Loon i read your response in the other post, is their any engine code or model which is easier than the rest? Is it best to find a Mk4 GTI wreck as opposed to the other model in terms of parts compatibility? Do u retain the original clocks from the Mk3 or need to swap it all over? and importantly could you retain the air con?

in terms of cost/effort vs performance, would the 2.0 16V conversion be better?

Daves 20VT Seat Cupra Conversion. Its an A3 Chassis so would be the same as a Mk3 20VT Conversion.

This car is actually for sale at the mo and is reliable enough to use as a daily.

I was going to do this as opposed to just turboing a VR6 instead . The benefits of it would be a lighter front end compared to the VR6 , so realistically youd only really use it for track street . For a drag car you want the most weight as far forward in front of the front suspension towers , so , VR6T stays and although the 1.8t is lighter , the positioning on the VR6 makes it a more feasible option
