  • [VR6] my cheap a$$ wheels + pics + coupla questions

    hi all

    i bought those $200 wheels from OzAudi. chucked on a brand new set of $400 205/40/17 and they fitted up no probs. cheapest wheel upgrade i have EVER done! they couldve done with a repair, but im impatient and didnt want to spend the extra money.

    dirty car, dirty wheels, pics attached!

    just some thoughts:

    * new wheels slightly heavier. acceleration not a brisk even though rolling diameter is smaller, and braking requires slightly more effort.

    * steering is lighter.

    * handling is AMAZING!

    rears rub on big bumps and so i need the guards (rear, maybe front too) rolled.

    coupla questions:

    1. anyone know a good place in melbourne to get the guards rolled? prefer a mobile dude due to shop contraints.

    2. was toying with the idea of removing the wheel arches. is it easy to do? anything i should be wary off?

    comments? for $600 i could not have picked up a better looking set of wheels that posed me no problems to fit (no spacers required!)

    cheers

    Very nice!! When rolling the guards, you'll have to get the wheel arches removed anyway so good idea to do it now to save on "labour" when you get the guards rolled. You'll see pop rivets on the edge of the wheel arch - just drill them out and your wheel arches should come straight off, but beware, you'll be in for a good deal of hard cleaning where the arches used to be. You might also encounter some fine (and maybe not so fine) scratches where the top edge of the wheel arches meet the paintwork. Just a warning.

          thanks guys.

          im having second thoughts about the arches.

          might just trim them. ideally id like the guards flared, but could be up for big bikkies if the paint flakes.

          yeah, the wheels looked "ok" on the audi, but im quite happy with how they turned out on the VR.

                  Looks nice mate - nice rim design.

                  IMO hang on to those euro flares (arches) they help give the VR its unique look - so maybe you can find a way

                  Penetrol works wonders on the black plastic, btw.

                      the wheels are aftermarket OZ Saturns.

                      they were on an Audi A3 originally.

                      the guy had them for sale for a while and ended up putting a sticker price of $200 for it.

                      i was lucky enough to get to him first

                        I just rolled my guard lips myself (wouldn't recommend doing it yourself BTW ) all I did with the wheel arch flares was trim them back level with the rolled guard lips and used double sided to attach them back on. You can also put a rivet right down the bottom for piece of mind.

                        Rims look da shizzle btw

                            They are a realy nice simple wheel that looks tops. Less is more and they do the trick nicely.

                            If it aint scrubbin, it aint dubbin!!!

                              is it possible to roll the rear guards without triming the plastic?

                              im happy to scrub on plastic as opposed to metal......
