  • Are airboxes interchangable?

Can a VR6 airbox be used on a 2.0L? Well the bottom of it at least?

From memory, the panel filter in a 2.0 is smaller. I could be wrong.

      Why do you ask ?

I think the bottom halfs are the same. Take the 2 out of your cars and compare em.

                The K & N filters are exactly the same VR6 = 2.0 litre.

Bottom should be the same - my 2.0L has a little plug connection on the bottom half but I have no idea what it does.

Top should also be the same - the MAF is separate to the airbox on the 2.0L and if that's the same on the VR6, then it should be interchangeable. I used to have a second air box and they were basically the same, except the design was only slightly different (grooves in different place etc, but still maintained overall shape).

Yeah it did actually, ran OK once the alternator ran a bit. The car had about 2L of fuel in it though A bit testing driving a VR6 out and running on the proverbial empty.

Car is really straight, needs some interior work i.e. some new door trims and a few things here and there, front bumper respray and a new grill. The engine has some hesitation under low rpm but idles well, and unfortunately though the ABS and airbag lights are fixed on all the time when I'm driving But all in all, it looks OK for now and for what I paid, is well worth it for a 71k VR6 which I'm 99% sure of it is due to the recent albeit partial service history and the condition of a few things in the car. Car looks like a good base but needs some $ to be spent and some TLC, a lot of TLC and care actually but a lot I can do myself in the upcoming 3 odd month uni holidays.

But good god its a beast I can't believe the difference Spinning the tires in 2nd up to 90 kays I couldn't believe it!

Thanks for the info guys, I'm just flat out for uni until next Friday, at least now I know I can swap my intake over from my GL, and make it sensible again and put the heat-shield on the VR for the real test! I'll get some pictures up Tomorrow or Saturday and make a new thread on it if I have time.

                    cheers again.

Yes I did as a matter of fact and here it is:

Well the airbox bottoms are interchangeable and do fit so now the GL is alot less noisy again, now I just don't have a normal VR6 airbox anymore, no matter CAI will be on soon with the heat shield.

And I'll make another thread next week once I get uni done, its not looking bad so far, although this is a tiny bit upsetting seeing this on all the time :

you should hit up someone with VAGCOM to check your errors and pay them to turn it off. or bring a 6pack. (now where can i get some VAGCOM hardware...)

i'm a big fan of the roof racks.

you should rape the spring set up from your GL so you can have some VR6 low action. om nom nom.

what are the plans for it?
