help with VR6 aftermarket wheel sizes

hi all

organising a set of 17's from overseas for the VR.

i have a choice of

17x7.5 5x100
et +20, +35 or +48

17x8.5 5x100
et +20 or +48

17x8 5x100
et +35 or +45


what would be the best size? i was thinking of staggered sizes (7.5 front 8.5 rear) as one of the designs have a bit of dish.

otherwise i was thinking 7.5 all round. will fit them with 205/40's all round.

not worrying too much about spoke design at this stage, i just like to know the ideal sizing.

Ideal sizing for staggered is 7.5 and 8.5 (or 9" if you're game ) otherwise I personally think 7.5 is a good all-rounder. tyresize is quite ideal also. for 7.5, you'll want anywhere between low to mid 30's in offset, and for more the offset needs to be less (high 20's) to clear the suspension, but then you'll have guard scrubbing/clearance issues too haha.

Hottuning coils are meant to give you much less clearance

It depends on what look you're after. If you want the wheels to poke a little, I'd go 17x7.5 ET20 205/40 for the fronts and 17x8.5 ET20 215/35 for the rears. No doubt you will rub with stock fenders but rolling them will limit your rubbing down to big dips in the road.

If you want to play it more safe, 17x7.5 ET35 205/40 will fit great on the fronts and 17x7.5" ET20 for the rears. You'll get a visible amount of dish with the rears. You might want to roll the guards a bit to help with clearance if you're low, but otherwise, you're pretty safe with the sizing. You can also try and get some neg camber in there for more clearance if you want - you'll have to ask the guys who'll do your alignment.

Rayray to the rescue yet AGAIN! Yeah I wasn't sure if you wanted to go pokey or just conservative with your choice Decksla; and I forgot you had hottunings. There are no big ugly spring seats like on stock shocks so you'll have better sideway clearance with wider wheels

17x8.5 et 30 and 17x9 et38, the rears are perfect though i cant judge the fronts as they dont clear my brakes but with my research they'd also be perfect no pics thoug if you want some i'll snap some

Yeah, if you have 8.5" ET20, they will poke only a little on the rears but with 215/35 tyres (quite a bit of stretch; again, see middle pic) and nicely rolled guards, you'll rarely rub. On the fronts though, they will poke quite a bit and will rub on full lock if your car is low enough. I wouldn't suggest 8.5" ET20 on the fronts.

me thinks the one size all round would be the best / cheapest thing to do

215/35R17 can be found - I did a google search before typing it in haha. Just that 205/40 may be just a bit too much stretch for some, but if you're happy with what you see in picture 2, then 205/40 will be fine for the 8.5". It's also a matter of whether the cops will defect you or not for them.

i have 205/40 on my front 8.5's and the stretch is not excesive, just nice, i doubt you'd get pinged for it
