Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Scuttle/Rain Tray for 97 Mk3

Looking to replace mine as it has perished badly where it sits against the windscreen.
Any suggestions of where to get both sides without paying a fortune in postage from OS?

Any time I have enquired, the response I have generally gotten from those in the know is that the RHD front windscreen scuttle is not easy or cheap to source from overseas. The simpliest and cheapest solution I have found is the get some black automotive silicone sealant and some masking tape and replace the perished rubber edge with silicone sealant.

Good luck with your hunt for the scuttle.

My Dragon Green CL (yours appears to be the same metallic green with a blue pearl coating) was as bad as that when we did it. If you get a sharp utility knife or hobby knife you can cut off the remaining perished rubberised edge, leave the rest of the hard plastic scuttle. Clean area with mentholated spirits. Masking tape the scuttle and the glass so you get a neat edge and then fill the gap with black automotive silicone sealant.

My CL need to have this done again. The last time we did it, was about 10 years ago and the silicone sealant has lifted and perished. However it will probably have to wait until I have time and money to do a full restoration on it (my blue pearl coating has peeled badly over the years so the car needs a full respray).

So further to my search - I can get one side new but the other side is NLA -

Shop 40,000+ spare parts in stock now for classic Volkswagen, Porsche & Land Rover from the biggest brands. Free delivery on orders over $250

The good thing about VW Heritage is that they are quick and when you spend over $250 (which isn't hard) you get free postage (not on big items though like panels)

Bugger, you could always try at a wrecker to get a 2nd hand one that is in decent condition.
