Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

OEM calipers are better than Wilwoods anyway

I have a strong feeling that willwoods won't make the grade for road use here

Girling 60's twin pots are the go with a 24-25mm master cylinder

Hey Valver, I am curious, what is wrong with Wilwoods (beside the dust seals). I know you have referred to them as 'show' brakes, is that due to maintenance or performance issues?

Yeah I have a set of the cupra carriers and calipers Tommy. You could keep it 4 stud and still have awesome brakes.

ah so many choices! i have a 22 mm master cyl so thats a start!

Willwoods are a no go now

ECS porsche brakes won't fit under my 15'' BBS

                  AP racing won't either

so that leaves me with the G60 or Ibiza Cupra brakes, I thought these where brembo 4 pots that ran a 12.3 inch disc ? or is that just the Cupra R ? Which again would not fit under a 15'' wheel or am i wrong?

A 22mm master cylinder will improve your pedal feel to start with
You can the put on the mk3 hubs with the 256mm rotor which will take the cupra or girling 60 carrier/calliper if you are still not happy with the 256mm

There are all sorts of rotors & pads for the 256mm brakes, which should give you heaps more stop than standard

Ive got the Ibiza Cupra R brakes and they wont fit under 15" wheels. They are 305x28mm 4 pot and will need 16" ± spacers.

Yer thought they wouldnt fit (cupra r), yer the mk2 8v hubs won't work as we all know! so the early mk3 4 stub hubs will do as we didnt get the later 16v hubs here.

any how i think ill get a nice 280 mm set up

rayray is selling a set of mk3 gl hubs that come off a 95 model which may be of use to u. bbm, fourseasons and ecs sell the girling60 caliper kit if ur going down that route.
