  • Power Steering cutting out

    Ello peoples.

Power steering has always been a bit of a grey area for me.

Anyway today the power steering started cutting out under high load, ie low speed turning, parallel parking etc.

I checked the fluid level which is fine and unchanged.

Could the belt be slipping? or there be a problem with the rack or the pump?

PAS experts feel free to chime in

    Cheers.

Sounds like a loose belt or failing pump
Does it only happen when its raining or any noises?
The pulley is prone to getting water spashed up onto it & causes the belt to slip, but you can hear the slipping sound

Slack belt or water splash for me.

I have a VW plastic cover that stops water getting on the belt. Would cost about $60 from a dealer, not sure if you can get them.

Thanks everyone did only notice it starting to happen yesterday and it was raining heavily. And yes Jmac the steering wheel does judder when you can feel the PAS kicking in and out, I assume as the belt slips and grips.

I wouldn't worry about it Carl, you have to get used to the heavy steering for tonight at the karts anyway... Give you half a chance at least!
