Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Welcome, Dougie. From what I've read about Mk 2s over here ... bring it with you. Good MkIIs are pretty rare in Aus.

Enjoy the forum and the Melbourne crew will be pleased to see you when (if?) you move out here.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Hi, 3 doors are pretty much no existent. Don't under estimate the costs involved. My mate just brought in a Corrado Storm and a MK1 turbo. They fitted in his container but it cost him a fair bit in taxes to get them on the road.

                    Hello from Scotland

I have heard that 3dr mkII are scarce over in Oz, but i didn't think that bad, need to be looking into a cointainer then. The bottom picture is the road to Ullapool taken from the lay by at Braemore junction, its a great road for a day out driving. I will post up pictures of my white one rebirth asap for you, its coming along nicely, hopefully back on the road this month. Its a F reg 88, not that many small bumper left over here either, but plenty 90 spec's, big bumpers about, 3dr and 5dr. I,m from dunfermline and stayed in Inverness and gairloch in the past.

                        Hi

The picture with the black & yellow Stig, was that taken at Glen Roy? I married a Scot and we were there in 2005 and it looks like the same sort of scenery.

Still here with my GTI in Scotland

Hi all in OZ with vw's, I'M still here with my mkII GTI and I'm still trying hard to get to OZ, passed my TRA, applied for state sponourship and visa , so hopefully only a year
Ive got my GTI back on the road, I will post up the photo's of the rebirth as soon as uploaded the photos to the computer.
Still dont know if i should bring the GTI with me, may have to buy another car when over there ,all down to money in the end. I have still not driven this car yet, bought it for £200 and have reborn it , but never drivn it , so no major lost, but would be a handed £1000 towards my visa, wot a bloody decision??????
What all do you need for a car to be driven on the road legally over there. what is the costs rego, insurance tax, etc, if anyone could adivse on this? much appericated

Can you not get a real visa mate. Having state sponsorship is a pain in the ar5e. I have just got off one after 2 years here and it opens loads of doors depending on what you do and family etc if you have permanent residency.
