Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Oil cooler sealing to flange

Does any body know what to use for the sealant for oil cooler to flange ?

Bentleigh lists to use AMV 188 100 82 ? I can not find this anywhere even the dealerships state its not on file. Do I need a sealant or is the O ring enough on its own ? Any body know ?

Go the O Ring. Maybe with a film of oil, like a filter.

I`ve never used sealant and my motors dont leak.

If this is what the sealant is for,I only use a light oil or grease too

It is listed on their ETKA as sealing paste.

Yes, but not on file or available from the dealerships, not so important anymore for the oil cooler but more so for the plate to block as in my other post, Sealing Pastes
but Bentley again says to use AMV 188 001 02 paste on the G60 block where there is a plate to seal off the hole for the coolant passage into the block on the cam belt side.

I don't really understand why it is not available from dealerships??????

If it's on their ETKA they should be able to get it.

Are you sure that they are trying?

I will give them another try, but every time I have asked they reply with Not On File, whatever that means.

"Not on File" is cryptic for "can't be bothered."

Give him the illustration number/engine code/year (1990) etc.

                Tell him he's a 027 115 611C
