Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

tried to get my gti registered yesterday... it turns out there's no compliance plate.. or so they tell me.. =S and that it would require VIN-station-age..

so i'm at a loss for what to do, because i'm not sure how the old golf will fare, getting properly checked out.. haha, but my mechanic said it did fine through the blue slip, it's just... no C/P.. so i ask of you mk2 golfers, if any one knows "Ramone" (steve's) number, because he would have past rego papers.

hope to see you guys on a cruise soon =].. in my own car.. hahaha,
    thanks

Yeah lots of the South African / UK private imports were very sloppily complianced.

This is not a problem for an easy pink slip, but a blue slip with identity check is hard. Most of these cars dont have aussie compliance plates and I have seen several with the number stamped on the strut tower at the time of import.

Its rubbish that years later this is no longer good enough.

In your case Jay Jay, I can help. I owned that car in 2005, 3 owners ago and just went through the archive and found some old reg papers for it.

Call me or pm me and tell me where you want em sent. This should be sufficient to prove to the clowns at the RTA that the car exists on their database.

          I know what you mean!!
My gti came in Pre private import plate B/S .....

I got a red sticker a while back, took it into get the sticker off ....
the bloke said he cant do it because it didnt have a plate.
so i rang the transport, they said it was ok...because the rego hasnt lapsed, but if it ever ran out of reg it would need to be taken in and all checked out for a private import plate......
          Cheers, Benny

              ooooookay.

well got a call from my mechanic and now i (finally) have a blue slip! broom broom!!

apparantely, some idiot like 15 years ago or so, when registering this car, wrote down the VIN wrong (wrote down a "V" instead of a "U") and ever since, this car's been registered under the wrong VIN. (according to old papers)

so here i am, about 2 months ago, wondering what the f*** manheimfowles are doing giving me a misprinted original reciept. so i spose i just wont ever be able to let this car run out of rego.. get some pics up later this week.. mind you, they're not very flattering..
