  • Any recommended VW mechanics in Brisbane?

    Morning all,

Can anybody recommend a good VW mechanic in Brisbane?

i am chasing someone to oversee and coordinate the restoration of my Golf, and complete mechanical upgrades along the way.

    Thanks in advance

I didn't think Gavin did full on mechanic work, mostly just bits and pieces on the side.
Jmac is probably the best bet given the age of the car.
Prestige and Performance is likely only suitable for newer VW's.

Yeah Gavin mostly deals with just software. I Can't speak highly enough of jmac( alba European) top bloke, eons of experience and above all honest! I've also had a few dealings with mike from prestige, they're a good bunch of people too but a bit far outta my way.

Yeah, I am not a big fan of working on old dubs these days. I don't mind talking about them though. I have a "real job" fixing aircraft

Oops, sorry Gavin! Knowledge is the greatest power though

Harding European used to look after my mk2, but I think they only deal with late models these days!!
I mostly now DIY as parts as fairly access able and most jobs can be done with half a brain, a manual and the right tools.

Wonder what a plumber or an electrician would say if you could do their job with half a brain:p always seems to be the case with mechanics though, shame as it is a hard slog apprenticeship , well used to be to get " proper trade papers" . And speaking for myself 24 odd years at minus 5 "aircraft trade" , can be disappointing to read sometimes. Sorry don't come on here much so don't get a chance to rant and that just happens to be one of my pet hates .

Sorry if I "disappointed" you man.

I seem have ruffled some feathers.

I was NOT attempting to offend any qualified mechanics with what I said above! I don't know how you got that??

I'd quite happily to admit to being the one with half a brain.

I was simply referring to the fact that the MK2- being a fairly primitive car (compared to the likes of say the Mk4- current Gti's- with all their trickery).

I think a lot of the members here on the forum share a love of tinkering with our VW's and part of the love affair is learning as we go.
I'm not a qualified mechanic, far from it.
But i do love learning about my car and don't mind getting my hands and shirt dirty and cursing in the shed every now and then.

                    Sorry if I offended you.

                      Thanks for that!
You forgot to mention; ...and with the help of those mechanics who don't use their half of the brain properly and give away all their knowledge for nothing in the internet forums.

All good bruz, , I applaud you having a go with your own car, the older ones can be worse to work on to be fair. Sorry for being a bit sensitive mate , personally I've put a lot into the trade and product , sorry bra strap gets tight sometimes.

Again, I didn't mean to offend any mechanics on the forums.

I admit the whole "half brain" comment should have been re- worded.
I did type this pretty late at night sorry, maybe my brain was on 10%.
