Brake problem

Hi guys, always one problem after another hehe.

Now its the brakes. They only work when the pedal is pushed all the way to the floor. It was fixed for a while but came back yesturday about a hrs drive away from home, so i drove home ****ting myself thinking they would stop working or i would have to stop suddenly and would die.

Ive been told to replace the master cylinder. The fluid was below min but i toped it up with no change.

Any ideas?

Anyone have a master cylinder.......?

cable? i have a similar thing with my handbrake cable but some how i dont think they're related.

Sounds like it's time to book it into a brake shop and get it properly looked at.

If your brake fluid is down you've got a leak somewhere and you really need to get that sorted out asap.

Better Brakes in Bayswater have been very helpful to me.

Mate here is a test for you - Clamp all of your Flexi brake hoses and in theory the brake should go hard if the master cylinder is good. If it is hard then you remove 1 by 1 till the pedal goes soft. Best and accurate way to test your brakes mate. Sounds like the master cyl but clamp them all and that will verify for sure.

Lets say for example, i clap all of them then i remove the rear left, still hard, rear right, still hard, (leave them unclamped) then remove the front left and it goes soft. What do i do then? Do i still test the front right? What does it tell me about the front left?

Could be a leaky calliper, that brake fluid is going somewhere.

yeah mate clamp it back up again and try the right just to verify, then go back to the left again, your flexi pipe may have a bulge in it, which means that the line can be split in the inner sheath, check for a bulge mate, or your caliper is dodgy, if when they are all clamped and hard the master cyl is ok. This is how you pinpoint the correct corner at fault.

Jimmy means remove one clamp at a time till you pinpoint the problem replacing them after you try each one.

Drove it today and it seemed fine. The brake felt even better then before. Now im just scared that itll stop working.

Do the brakeing system get damaged when you press the pedal when the car is not running?

I once had a similar problem where the car would not lock up and the brakes were only slowing down the car when you would stomp on the pedal. I rebuilt the brake master cylinder and there was still no improvement. I didnt loose fluid, so there was no leak. I was never able to figure it out, in the end I just got rid of the car.

Again you dont need to be losing fluid to be losing pressure, if the flexi is split inside it will bulge and lose pressure but you will not lose fluid this way. You dont have to have a leak to lose pressure
