Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Photos of v belts setup

Hi all, anyone has photos of how the v belts are setup? I can't seem to fit the vbelts after water pump change. I am not sure if I have installed the pulleys the wrong way round ( smaller pulley outside driving power steering).

      Hi Ryan,

Thanks! But I noticed your water pump only has 1 pulley and it looks like is being driven by the bigger crank pulley. Is that right?

Do you have air cond and/or power steering ? It depend on your existing setup

Some MK2's had an extra pulley, to complicate things more.
The site Red linked explains it pretty well actually.

                Cheers mate!
So it looks like the outer water pump pulley is smaller than the inner pulley which is the way I have installed it. So I assume I'll will have to either remove the water pump pulleys (or the aircon compressor and ps pump) to fit in the belts for ps and air con as it wouldn't fit (too tight) at the moment. That's before even tightening them.
